Good for Reality TV

I signed up for RTL+ Premium last month, mainly to watch Sommerhaus der Stars. It was easy to get started, and the app on my smart TV worked fine. No big issues, just streamed what I wanted to watch, pretty straightforward.

Decent Streaming, Some Quirks

I decided to try out RTL+ Max during a '3 Monate kostenlos' offer to catch up on some Krimi Serien and use the offline download function for a trip. The registration process was smooth, and linking my payment method was quick. I used the app on both my phone and Smart TV. The streaming quality for the most part was good, even on a slower connection. The offline download feature worked as advertised, which was a huge plus for my travels. However, I noticed that switching between profiles on the Smart TV app could sometimes be a bit clunky, taking a few extra seconds to load. Customer support wasn't needed, so I can't comment there. Overall, it's a solid service with a vast library, but the app could use minor optimization for smoother navigation.

Watched Bundesliga Live

I got RTL+ to watch the Bundesliga Live Stream. Setting it up was simple enough, and I was able to watch the matches without major buffering problems. The picture quality was solid. I did find the interface on my tablet a little less intuitive than other streaming apps I've used, but it wasn't a deal-breaker. Value for money was decent for what I needed.

Can I watch RTL+ when I'm traveling outside Germany? Like, if I'm in Spain on vacation, will it still work?

P Priya 2 months ago

Nah, I'm pretty sure it's geoblocked to Germany and maybe Austria/Switzerland. I tried watching it when I was in Italy last year and it didn't work without a VPN.

N Nick S. 2 months ago

Pretty sure you can't stream it outside of Germany/DACH region. Something about rights. You'd need a VPN to make it think you're still in Germany.

I'm thinking of switching from Netflix to RTL+. Is the app good? Like, easy to use on a smart TV?

S Sarah E. 2 months ago

The app is decent. Not as slick as Netflix maybe, but it works fine on my Samsung smart TV. Sometimes it takes a second to load but overall it's good.

It's a solid app. I use it on my Fire TV Stick and it's pretty responsive. Finding stuff is easy enough. Definitely comparable to other streaming apps.

Does anyone know if you can still get a student discount for RTL+? Or is that offer gone now?

P Paula Silva 3 months ago

I'm pretty sure they still have a student discount. Check their website under 'Angebote' or something similar. I saw it mentioned recently.

J James T. 2 months ago

Yeah, I think I saw something about a studentenrabatt. Might be through UNiDAYS or something like that. Worth checking.

Are there any current deals for new customers right now? Like a 3 months for the price of one or something?

P Priya 2 months ago

They often have those kinds of neukundenrabatt deals, especially around seasonal events or big shows starting. Check their main page, usually advertised there.

R Renee Romero 1 month ago

Keep an eye out for 'Aktionsabo' or 'Max Paket Rabatt'. They pop up pretty often for new sign-ups or if you let your subscription lapse for a bit.

What's the difference between the Premium and Max plans? Is Max really worth the extra money or is Premium enough for most people?

S Sarah N. 2 months ago

Premium gets rid of most ads and lets you use it on two devices at once. Max is like, way more devices, plus the music and audiobooks. If you just want TV shows, Premium is probably fine.
